Although Haejo Shinmun was published at overseas, Haejo Shinmun was connected to the national paper in Korea.
The researcher is interested in the advertising of the Haejo Shinmun to research the character and role of the Haejo Shinmun. The purpose of this study is to research the advertising of the Haejo Shinmun during the whole of the publication. The advertising of the Haejo Shinmun offered cues the understanding of the situations at that time, because the advertising published the events of that time and the opinion of the peoples. The advertising published the events and the opinion as well as the information of merchandises.
We estimated that the advertising of the Haejo Shinmun informed the readers of the information of merchandises and the opinion at that time. The Haejo Shinmun was the role of the Patriotic Enlightenment Movement as the Korean newspapers had done. The publishers had thought and movement to recover the national sovereign and to construct national independence. The Haejo Shinmun would be stimulated the national sovereign and national independence to the people from the press campaign. In the course of the movement, the Haejo Shinmun informed the readers of the national sovereign and national independence through its advertising; because the contents of the advertising included the political message as well as the merchandise's message.
