미국 초등학교의 프로젝트 학습에서 컴퓨터와 인터넷 활용 실태 분석 = Integration of Computers and the Internet Applied to Project-Based Learning in American School

국문 초록 (Abstract)

컴퓨터와 인터넷을 활용하는 프로젝트 학습은 정보화 시대와 지식기반 사회에 살고 있는 학습자들에게 필수적인 학습방법이다. 본 연구에서는 미국 초등학교에서 실시한 프로젝트 학습에서 컴퓨터와 인터넷을 활용한 사례를 조사하여 우리나라 초등학교에서의 시사점을 도출하였다. 미국의 사례로는 인터넷 검색 순위 상위인 BIE와 웨스트 버지니아 주 교육부에서 제공하는 우수 사례 가운데 초등학교 학년과 과목을 고려하여 열두 개 사례를 선정하였다. 사례 분석 결과, 컴퓨터의 도구적 기능(문서작성, 프레젠테이션, 스프레드시트)과 인터넷 웹사이트 검색 및 이메일을 주로 사용하였다. 동영상을 편집하고 여행 거리 및 자동차 연료비를 계산하는 소프트웨어를 사용하기도 했다. 그리고 컴퓨터와 인터넷의 활용도를 높여주는 비디오 카메라, 프로젝터 등의 기자재를 함께 사용하였다. 교사들은 프로젝트에 관련된 지식과 기능을 프로젝트 수업 전이나 도중에 가르쳤다. 그리고 두 개의 프로젝트학습에서는 IT 기능을 한 두 개만 적용하였다. 마지막 부분에는 우리나라 초등학교에서 실시하는 프로젝트 학습에 적용할 수 있는 방법을 제언하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Project-based learning (PBL) becomes an essential learning method to those who live in the information age as well as a knowledge based society. This study analyzed cases implemented computers and internet in PBL in American elementary schools. 12 examples of PBL were sampled from a couple of sources, a book published by the BIE(Buck Institute of Education) and a website of the West Virginia Office of Education. The examples cover all the grade levels and possible subjects in elementary schools. The results suggest that tools(word processors, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.) of computers and web searching and email were mostly used in PBL. Computer software like video editing and calculating travel distances were implemented. Media facilitating the use of computers and internet, such as video camera and projector were utilized. Teachers instruct students with knowledge and skills they would need, both in advance of and during the project. However a couple of projects used a few functions of computers and internet. Suggestions for Korean elementary school teachers who want to apply PBL are listed in the end of the article.
