한국문화교육 제재로서의 인물 설화 현황과 제안 = Current Status and Future Directions of Historical Figures’ Tales as Materials for Korean Cultural Education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

설화는 한국의 전승 문화를 담고 있는 좋은 한국문화교육 자료다. 그중에서도 신화적 인물 이야기, 역사 인물 전설 등은 한국의 역사뿐 아니라 위인이 남긴 업적도 학습할 수 있는 교훈적인 제재이다. 또한 여러 문화 요소를 담고 있어, 다양한 교수․학습활동이 가능하다.
본고에서는 한국어교육 교재, 󰡔초등국어󰡕와 고등 󰡔문학󰡕 교과서, 한국 구비 설화집 등에 수록된 인물 설화들을 살펴보고, 최종적으로 ‘아름다운 이야기 할머니’ 사업에서 선정한 선현미담 중에서 ｢책 읽기를 좋아한 왕자 세종대왕｣과 ｢물살과 암초로 왜군을 물리친 이순신｣을 한국문화 교육제재로 제안했다.
기존 한국어교육 교재에서 소개된 세종과 이순신 이야기들이 설명문 혹은 업적과 연관성이 적은 일화였던 것과 달리, 선정된 이야기들은 좀 더 인물의 생애 업적 관련성이 높고 학습 난이도가 낮은 제재들로서 교육적 가치가 있다. 그리고 무엇보다도 영화와 TV 드라마 등 다양한 매체에 수용․향유되고 있어, 현재적 의미를 가지고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The utilization of folktales in Korean language education is well- established practice. These stories serve as a means of language instruction and cultural education, providing a window into traditional Korean culture. Among them, stories of mythical figures and legends of historical figures offer a unique opportunity for students to learn about Korean history and the lessons derived from the experiences of great people. In addition, these stories contain a multitude of cultural elements, allowing for diverse learning activities that cater to different learning styles.
This paper examines a range of folktales, including those featured in Korean language education textbooks, elementary and high school Korean language and literature textbooks, English translations of Korean folktales and traditional fairy tales, and oral folktale collections. Among the folktales of ancestors examined, the stories of Sejong and Yi Sun-sin selected from the “Beautiful Story Grandmothers” collection, are considered exemplary tales for Korean cultural education.
These works, along with the existing stories of Dangun and Jumong, are considered the most suitable folktales for promoting cultural understanding and appreciation among students.
