일반논문 : 대북제국대학(臺北帝國大學) 열대의학연구소의 형성과 전개 = The Evolution of Institute for Research in Tropical Medicine, Taihoku Imperial University

국문 초록 (Abstract)

熱帶醫學硏究所는 1909년 4월 대만총독부연구소 위생학부로 설립되었다. 이후 전염병 예방 수요의 증가와 총력전체제 지원을 위해 일제는 위생부 조직을 확대하였다. 그리고 1939년 4월 식민지 대만의 유일한 고등교육기관인 대북제국대학의 부속연구소로 개편되었다. 열대의학연구소의 목적은 열대병 연구와 치료제 개발에 맞춰졌다. 또한 1939년5월부터는 분기별로 대북제대 열대의학연구소, 의학부, 의학전문부 교직원의 열대의학 및 관련 학문에 대한 독창적인 연구 성과를 공유하기 위해 歐文으로 기관지를 출간하였다. 본고는 열대의학연구소의 역사, 구성원, 출간잡지로부터 그 성격과 실태를 검토하고자 한다. 이는 대만에서의 일제 植民地醫學과 연관되어 있으며, 아시아태평양전쟁 시기 ‘남방의학’의 전개도 파악할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Institute for Research in Tropical Medicine(IRTM) was established in April 1909 as the Department of Hygiene, Government Research Institute of Formosa by Imperial Japan for sanitary investigations. It was developed by increasing demands for preventing infectious diseases and supporting the Total War System. And it became an affiliated institute in April 1939, Taihoku Imperial University which was the unique higher education establishment of colonial Taiwan. Its aim was focused on the research of tropical diseases and vaccines. IRTM had issued its own academic journal, Acta Japonica(Nipponica) Medicinae Tropicalis quarterly since May 1939 for sharing the results of original investigations in tropical medicine and related sciences by the staff and associated workers in the IRTM, Faculty of Medicine, and the affiliated College of Medicine, Taihoku Imperial University. By analyzing its history, members and periodicals, this paper examines the reality and feature of IRTM. This is related to Japanese colonial medicine in Taiwan and we can find out the evolution of southern medicine during the Asia-Pacific War.
