현단계 현대문학 연구의 새 방향 = New Direction on the Research of Modern Korean Literature

It has been over 60 years since research of modern Korean literature started. So far, research of modern Korean literature was mainly done with help of imported foreign theories. However, stream of globalization demands self-examination about this academic phenomena. This writing aims to look around 4 tasks which research of modern Korean literature should overcome under the stream of globalization. First of all, renewal of academic terms is needed. Nowadays, globalization causes considerable damage to Korean language. Use of accurate academic term is essential in this situation not only for Korean academic identity itself but also to make research of Korean literature an international discussion. Improvement of general terms and correct use of technical terms are included in renewal of academic terms. Second, North Korean literature should be dealt as a regional literature. So far, research for North Korean literature has been locked in macro criterion of Marxism-Leninism literature. The research was distorted by Seoul-oriented or Pyongyan-oriented logic. Nevertheless, regional literature research would improve history of unified literature. Third, pro-japanese literature is reality in the past, presents, and future simultaneously. Hence, it is important to lay the foundation for pro-japanese literature research. The key point for pro-japanese literature research is discovery of primary references and investigation or accumulation of literature by Japanese or Chinese character. Fourth, children`s literature should be deepen. From inner part aspect, we need to subdivide research categories by introducing generation literary theory such as childhood literature and adolescent literature. From outer part aspect, it is time to focus on integrated research by demolishing the wall between children`s literature and adult`s literature. Above four tasks are essential for research of modern Korean literature to enhance self-generation ability and to keep discourse hegemony under the globalization. Globalization forces us to look around our literature multidirectionally at a higher level. Effort of each and every researcher is needed.
