초등학교 민주시민교육의 현황과 문제 = The reality and problem of democratic citizenship education in elementary school

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문의 목적은 초등학교에서의 민주시민교육의 현 시태는 어떠하며， 만약 문제점이 있다면 그것을 어떻게 보완할 수 있겠는가？ 하는데 있다. 초등학교 민주시민교육의 현 실태를 살펴봄에 있어 초등학교의 내적인 문제를 살펴보았다. 민주사회의 성장과 발전을 위해서는 민주주의의 이념과 가치에 대한 이해 및 확고한 신념, 합리적이고 건전한 사고를 토대로 공동체를 위해 참여하고 헌신할 수 있는 유능하고 책임감 있는 민주시민을 육성해야 한다. 따라서 정보화 사회에 적합한 민주시민교육은 복합적·유기적·체계론적 패러다임에 기초한 전체적이고 통합적인 관점에서 다루어져야 한다. 민주시민교육은 개인적 가치와 공동체적 가치의 조화, 개별 국가의 국민이자 세계 시민에게 요청되는 새로운 시민성의 함양, 정보화 사회의 민주주의에 관한 반성적 사고와 적극적 참여 기능의 활성화, 그리고 참여자중심의 다양한 민주시민 교육방법의 유기적 통합이라는 과제를 수행 해 야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper focused on what is the realities of democratic citizenship education, and if any, what is the problems and how to solve them effectively. In order to examine the realities of moral education, I approached way that is 'in' of the elementary school. In general, education for democratic citizenship is needed now more than ever to consolidate and deepen democratic political systems. The concept of democratic citizenship has been developed by reflection and discussion on the cultural, socio-political environment of a particular political system. Thus, if we are to understand democratic citizenship in terms of ongoing societal changes, it is necessary to scrutinize the meaning and the contents of the citizenship in an information society. To do this, however, above all there needs to be a fundamental shift in our perception and thinking of citizenship education. Democratic citizenship education has to emphasize the followings: Firstly, democratic citizenship education has to harmonize individual values with communal values. Secondly, it has to stimulate reflective thinking on democracy of an information society and encourage active participation of citizens. Finally, it has to consider and adopt various educational methods for the effectiveness of citizenship education in an information society.
