This volume is intended to be a user`s manual explaining the basic structure of the 「KIPA dB-97」 and its operating procedures. The 「KIPA dB-97」 is the name of a database compiling diverse statistical data on Korean government. The database was first developed in 1993. After that the series of 「KIPA dB」 have been developed in 1994 and 1996. The 「KIPA dB-97」, the product of 1997. is an updated and upgraded version of the database about Korean government administration.
The remarkable feature of this edition is the graphical presentation. Unlike the earlier versions, in the 「KIPA dB-97」, users can easily search and review the data for their overall trends and characteristics through graphical formation. By selecting the menus provided, users can easily convert any retrieved data into nine forms of graphs, including pie charts, column charts, and line graphs. In addition, all the items contained in this version have been updated with the data produced since the publication of the previous version.
Alike the 1996 version, the 「KIPA dB-97」 is being provided in the CD-ROM format. It can also produce output files in the ASCII formal, so that all the data from the 「KIPA dB-97」 can be retrieved into such spreadsheet programs as LOTUS: QUATRO, and ``Korean EXCEL``. Using text editor programs, the data of the 「KIPA dB-97」 can be used as input files for such statistical package programs as SPSS and SAS.
While the 「KIPA dB-96」 was solely operated in the DOS environment，the 「KIPA dB-97」 is developed to be operated under the Windows95 environment, too. The next 「KIPA dB-98」 will be the product of the Windows version. Thus the formats and contents of the database will be developed for the multimedia environment.
