In 1517, Martin Luther declared a religious reformation to reform the depraved churches. After 500 years of the Reformation, the situation in the Korean churches which need to acutely restore the influence of Christianity is not very different than that time. The core value of the Reformation is to restore the authority of the Bible, and it is a movement to seek for reforming the depraved churches, extending the publicness of churches and faith, and expanding the Kingdom of God through this. Furthermore, Luther’s reformation is the starting point for new changes toward diverse value systems, such as the biblical worldview, politics, economy, society, and culture, where religion becomes central.
As the Korean Church marks the Reformation’s 500th anniversary, it is raising its voice on re-establishment of the mind of ‘faith and theology of the Reformation’, the new start as the biblical church, and the responsibility of fulfilling mission for evangelization of the world by forming one body in Jesus Christ. In order to practice this, Churches must establish faith with the spirit of ‘by Scripture alone(Sola Scriptura)’, and train herselves to become the biblical church because the word of God is inerrant and sufficient. ‘The faith and the theology of the Reformation’ is for the glory of God, and concludes in knowledge of and worship Him, and the tool for the direction and guidelines of the Reformation must be the Bible. In addition, in order for a church to become the church, it have to base its theological foundation on the central principle of the absolute sovereignty of God. Therefore, there is a need to understand justice and reconciliation in order to practice in a specific level.
In the biblical perspective, justice and reconciliation are defined as obedience and practice of the word of God. In the missiological perspective, they also are understood to set an example with humble behavior in various areas of the world like relationships, society, culture, politics, economics, and education etc. In other words, reconciliation starts with ‘magnanimity and the destruction of the vigilance’, and justice places on a starting point in the glory of God, of course they must be the manifestation of the kingdom of God in this world. In addition, justice and reconciliation in the view of the Reformation originated from God, their practices are possible by being recognized the power from Him, and they can be practiced only for the sake of the practice of the word of God and glory of God.
Since the Reformation, mission paradigm has been diversified, and the influence of the church has weakened because of the influence of the Enlightenment. In this church crisis, the church has to recover the influence of the church by practicing justice and reconciliation with spirituality, namely the core value of the Reformation. By emphasizing the power of magnanimity, the church must restore spirituality, and also practice justice and reconciliation in the holistic mission.
The church must have a new perspective on its essence through the spirit of the Reformation. The Korean church in the era of artificial intelligence has to recover the Christian influence through justice and reconciliation based on the Bible with the spirit of the Reformation, and set the missionary direction for mission fields, which variously and quickly change in the future society, through the spirit of the Reformation. In other words, the Korean church must challenge the world for the expansion of the Kingdom of God, express herself with the word of God and prayers, and pursue a dynamic life through personal spiritual growth. The Korean church must be able to make a voice of justice and reconciliation toward the mission fields, and practice them based on the faith and theology of Reformation.
