두 작물시료 모두 설정된 MRL(0.05 mg/kg 및 0.5 mg/kg)를 초과하지 않았다.

With the implementation of the Positive List System (PLS) for the safe production of agricultural products, pesticide residues without established Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) are uniformly managed under a default standard (0.01 mg/kg). However, cases frequently occur where pesticides used on preceding crops remain in the soil and are translocated unintentionally by subsequent or secondary crops, violating PLS standards. This study aimed to prevent unintended pesticide residue problems by selecting terbufos, a soil-mixed pesticide recently identified as a top non-compliant item, and evaluating its residue patterns in the preceding crop (ssam cabbage) and the following crop (perilla leaf) to establish theoretical PBI values for the following crop. Field trials were conducted at two locations, with crop and soil samples collected chronologically. All samples were extracted and purified using a QuEChERS method compliant with international guidelines and analyzed by LC-MS/MS. Method validation results showed recovery rates ranging from 73.8% to 113.7% across all samples, meeting the Rural Development Administration's standard (70–120%). Calibration curve linearity (R²) was also above 0.997, satisfying crop residue testing criteria. The maximum calculated residue levels for the preceding crop, ssam cabbage, were 0.01 mg/kg in Test Field I and < LOQ in Test Field II. For the following crop, perilla leaf, the maximum calculated residue levels were 0.03 mg/kg in Test Field I and < LOQ in Test Field II. Neither crop sample exceeded the established MRLs (0.05 mg/kg and 0.5 mg/kg). For soil samples, in the previous crop soil, Field I showed a maximum level of 1.31 mg/kg, and Field II showed 0.39 mg/kg. In perilla leaf cultivation soil, Field I showed a maximum level of 1.03 mg/kg, and Field II showed a level of 0.02 mg/kg. The soil half-lives were calculated as 16.5 days and 22.4 days, respectively. The difference in residue levels between the two fields is mainly attributed to the difference in the soil’s physicochemical properties. Based on the residues and half-lives in the crop and soil, the theoretical PBI was calculated. For both fields, the result was a negative value based on the perilla leaf MRL, so there was no need to set a separate PBI. However, the PBI by PLS was 86.8 days in Test Field I and 76.8 days in Test Field II, suggesting that a fallow period of approximately 3 months or more is required when cultivating subsequent crops.
