This study was conducted to investigate the cosmetical effects of a peelingpack using mountain ginseng adventitious root powder. The peelingpack containing 10% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder was the most stable without separation compared with other formula (peelingpack containing 20% and 15% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder). Based on the results, experiments on the stability, tyrosinase inhibition, moisturizing, free radical scavenging and removal of the stratum corneum were carried out to determine the effects of the peelingpack containing 10% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder.
Evaluations were made on the stability of the peelingpack containing 10% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder. pH, viscosity, separation and precipitation were measured under the 5 different temperatures (-10℃, 0℃, 25℃, 35℃ and 45℃) and 3 different lights (fluorescent, sun light and uva light) during 90 days. The peelingpack did not show pH change, viscosity change, separation and precipitation under the various conditions of temperatures and lights mentioned above.
Tyrosinase inhibition activity related to skin whitening of peelingpack inhibited about 63% inhibition rate at 5.0% concentration. As a result, tyrosinase inhibition effect of the peelingpack containing 10% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder compared to the others (peelingpack containing 10% seaweed powder and peelingpack without mountain ginseng adventitious root powder) increased about 20∼30% at 5.0% concentration.
For evaluation of moisturizing effect, the flexor side of forearm was applied with three different types of peelingpack. After 5 hours, the results measured by corneometer showed a significant improvement (10∼11% increase) in the peelingpack (10% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder) compared to others.
Free radical scavenging activity of the peelingpack resulted in 62% scavenging rate at 5.0% concentration: Free radical scavenging effect of the peelingpack containing 10% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder increased about 20% scavenging rate at 5.0% concentration.
The peelingpack containing 10% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder resulted in smoother surface of skin after the treatment compared to the skin before the treatment, showing the effect of removal on the stratum corneum.
Results of questionnaire indicated that the peelingpack (10% mountain ginseng adventitious root powder) was effective for soft texture, whitening effect, moisturizing effect, and removal effect of the stratum corneum.
The results suggest that the development of a peelingpack using mountain ginseng adventitious root powder could be a new way for korean herbal medicine cosmetics.
