비극적 세계관과 아테네 민주주의

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There have been many researches about the relationship of Athenian tragedies and democracy. They have been dealing mainly with the linkage of the tragedies’ themes and political situations of Athens, democratic attitudes of characters, the popularity and the collectivity of mass gathering, and the rhetoric styles of tragedy performances. This study is to seek for an epistemological homology of the Athenian tragedies and democracy focusing on their tragic characteristics incorporated in both of them. If the tragic worldview includes the distrust on human beings, the destructiveness of blind beliefs, anti-rationalism, and unintended miseries, the Athenian tragedies have a lot in common with the Athenian democracy which has politically institutionalized on the tragic worldview. That the institutions of democracy are based on “the institutionalization of distrust” means that the tragic worldview deeply laid on it would be well understood as the epistemological base of the Athenian democracy and tragedies. On this point, Not only are the Athenian tragedies regarded as something political, but the tragic worldview could be regarded as an epistemological origin of the Athenian tragedies and democracy.
