This paper aims at investigating the spiritual bases of Isang Yun's music. The author deals primarily with the East Aisan philosophy and thought, by which Isang Yun's music was much influenced. Isang Yun has successfully changed the 'philosophical' principles of yin-yang to the 'musical' organization method. His music is, as he mentioned, the representation of tao. In addition to these East Asian philosophies, another bases of his music is humanistic spirit of composer, which is western tradition. Isang Yun believed that music can, and should express the social, political problems. This firm Relationship between his music and non-musical objects is not originated from the East Asian tradition. Since in East Asia, art is the form of universal principle or order rather than the expression of one person's feeling or idea. This social message or political subject in his work are not related with this concept of eastern art. These two spiritual bases - East Asian and western - of Isang Yun's music meet each other in his musical piece, specially in his instrumental concertos.
