사회적·태도·내적 요인이 청소년 흡연에 미치는 영향 : 성별차이를 중심으로 = Social, Attitudinal, and Intrapersonal Factors Influencing Smoking among Adolescents : Focusing on Gender Differences

The aims of this study are to examine whether social, attitudinal, and intrapersonal factors have significant influence on adolescent smoking, and to explore how these factors affect adolescent smoking differently across the gender line. We conducted a secondary analysis using the data from 2010 Adolescent Health Survey, which was taken from 3,933 high school students (2,004 boys and 1,929 girls). Our study found that 22.2% of the participants (33.1% of male and 10.8%of female students in the survey) have experienced smoking at least once in the past. Among those with experience in smoking, 37.5% of male, and 26.8% of female students were daily smokers. According to the results of logistic regression analyses, “parental attitude” and “smoking friends”among social factors, “school life” and “perception toward smoking” in attitudinal factors, and “self-efficacy” in intrapersonal factors were statistically significant. When male and female adolescents were analyzed separately, the social factor of “having friends who smoke” was the strongest factor influencing adolescent smoking, while attitudinal factors such as “school life” and “perception toward smoking” were significant. In addition, we found gender differences in terms of intrapersonal factors. High levels of “self-efficacy” increased the likelihood of smoking among male adolescents, while high levels of “stress” had a similar effect among female adolescents. This result suggests it is important to provide gender-specific smoking prevention or cessation programs for adolescents. More specifically, intervention should be designed to focus on improving smoking efficacy for males, while skills for coping with stress should be emphasized for females.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 청소년의 사회적, 태도, 내적 요인이 청소년 흡연에 영향을 미치는지 알아보고, 각 요인들의 영향력이 남녀 청소년 간 차이가 있는 지 알아보는 것이다. 본 연구는 ‘2010 청소년 건강실태조사’중 전국의 일반계 및 전문계 고등학생 총 3,933명(남 2,004명, 여 1,929명)을 포함한 자료를 이차 분석하였다. 본 연구 결과, 전체 청소년의 22.2%, 남자 청소년의 33.1%, 여자 청소년의 10.8%가 흡연 경험이 있는 것으로 보고되었으며, 흡연 청소년 중 매일 흡연율도 남자 청소년 37.5%, 여자 청소년 26.8%로 나타났다. 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 사회적 요인 중 부모태도와 친구흡연이, 태도 요인에서는 학교생활과 흡연인식이, 내적 요인에서는 자기효능감이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 남녀 청소년을 분리하여 살펴보면, 사회적 요인 중 친구흡연이 남녀 청소년 흡연에 가장 강력한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 태도 요인인 학교생활과 흡연인식은 모두 유의미한 영향력을 나타냈다. 성별 차이는 내적요인에서 나타났는데, 남자 청소년은 자기효능감이 높을수록 흡연 가능성이 높아지는 반면, 여자 청소년은 스트레스가 높아질수록 흡연 가능성이 높아졌다. 이는 청소년 흡연 예방 및 금연 프로그램들이 성별 차이를 고려하여 시행되는 것이 필요함을 시사한다. 즉, 남자 청소년에게는 바람직한 금연효능감 증진을 위한 개입에 중점을, 여자 청소년에게는 스트레스 대처훈련에 초점을 두어야 할 것이다.
