노인수형자의 지역사회 교정처우에 관한 연구 = The study on the Community Corrections Program for Elderly Inmates

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There are many such social problems triggered by a sudden increase in elderly population as a decrease in productivity and an increase in social cost engendered by higher ratio of young people supporting to elderly dependents than before. Also, a rise in the number of crimes by elderly people is an outstanding problem, the problem which causes more elderly Inmates and correctional expenses. Understanding the seriousness of pre-stated problems, developed countries are investing in the development of programs and in effective treatments on elderly inmates.
In the case of Korea, it is confronting similar problems; the steady increase in the number of elderly inmates and the aging phenomenon in prisons.
Therefore, the establishment of the effective correctional treatment policy is inevitable to overcome them. With the exception of solution, those problems would be getting worse, because of repeated convictions and imprisonments.
This study suggests ‘Community Corrections Program’ which has worked well in developed countries as an alternative solution. ‘Community Corrections Program’ offers various services which allow inmates to use local resources and then to successfully return to the society, and would accomplish the stabilization of the society trough control on elderly inmates.
