영어와 한국어의 은유의 보편성 - 신체 표현을 중심으로 - = Similarities between English and Korean in the Use of r Related to the Body Parts

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Metaphorical expression describes one thing as another. It works by transferring meaning, allowing us to understand one domain of experience in terms of another. Literary metaphors defamiliarize language, but we also use metaphors in everyday speech. Especially, many words expressing metaphor are often derived from expressions referring to the physical actions or the body parts affected by the physical reactions. This paper has shown that the English examples related to the body parts can be easily translated into corresponding metaphors in Korean which is linguistically and culturally very remote. Accordingly, this fact indicates a high degree of similarity between English and Korean in the use of metaphorical expressions related to the body parts.
