The aim of the present study was to develop a scale to quantitatively measure the degree of Jibchak based on the definition of Jibchak by Yun, Hokyun(2001). This study took the two steps. This Jibchak Scale consisted of three different constructs, namely, lack of nowness(vs. nowness), rigidity(vs. flexibility) and dependency(vs. autonomy). The questionnaire for the Jibchak Scale consisted of 27 items, 9 items for each construct. Cronbach-α of the Jibchak Scale was .86 and each Cronbach-α of three constructs was .85 for lack of nowness, .84 for rigidity and .82 for dependency. Test-retest reliability was .75 and each test-retest reliability of three constructs was .80 for lack of nowness, .74 for rigidity and .83 for dependency. To validate the scale, I examined the correlation between the Jibchak Scale and 4 established scales, relevant to the Jibchak Scale. The correlation between the Jibchak Scale and the neuroticism component of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ) was .54, which was statistically significant. The validity of each construct was .57 between lack of nowness and the Penn State Worry Questionnaire(PSWQ), .22 between rigidity and the autonomy scale, and .55 between dependency and the sociotropy scale, and it showed that they were significantly correlated to each other.
