      We looked at the characteristics of ancestral rites at Seo-won in the Joseon Dynasty. The main contents were analyzed by dividing them into ritual days, attendants, sacrifices, and ritual procedures. The characteristics rites of the Seo-won of the Joseon Dynasty were established by Yi-Hwang(李滉) and his disciples in Gyeongsang-do, in the 16th century, and the foundation was laid around Yi-Yi(李珥) in Hwanghae-do. Later, the ritual ceremonies of incense were changed by region through historical changes in the rituals were implemented in the Seo-won of the two regions. Yi-Hwang and his disciples organized the memorial service for the Seo-won, which was a war criminal of Namin-line(南人系) Seowon in Gyeongsang-do. In addition, the rite, which can be seen in the Seowon-related regulations established by Yi-Yi, was spread around Seoin-line Seowon in Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, and Jeolla-do.
      The ritual days of Seo-won were the second Jungday of the second month(仲月 中丁日) and the first Jungday of the third month(季月 上丁日) in Namin-line Seowon, and second Jungday of the second month in Seoin-line Seowon. In Namin-line Seowon, Hong-Danryeung(紅團領) clothing was worn during the ceremony(齋戒) and Heuk-Danryeung(黑團領) clothes were worn at the ceremony(行禮), making a difference. At the Seoyeon-line Seowon, they wore Heuk-Danryeung clothes during ceremonies.
      In Namin-line Seowon, it was characterized by the use of chickens(鷄腥) at the sacrifice of ancestral rites. At the Seoin-line Seowon, the number of Byeondus(籩豆) did not match because Hyungyeom(形鹽) was used as a ritual. In Namin-line Seowon, ceremonial procedures have often been carried out without reducing regular ceremonies at seowon, including ancestral rites, the first day of January ceremonies(正謁禮), and the first day and the fifteenth day ceremonies(朔望禮). In addition, ceremonies conducted by the family(家禮) in Namin-line Seowon in Gyeongsang-do were also shown in the Confucian rites of the seowon. Seo-line Seowon was characterized by the fact that Ganghye(講會) were included in the ritual process. In addition, the Sacrificial rite of Seo-won, which were restored in modern times, were able to examine the influence of the Seokjeon rite(釋奠儀禮), which was implemented at the local Confucian school's Munmyo Shrine(文廟).
