Slices of human myometrium and myoma tissue obtained immediately after hysterectomy were superfused with buffer solution containing tritiated Estradiol 17-B, and the uptake and matabolism of radioactive estrogens by the two tissue were compared. The uptake rates of radioactive estrogen by normal myometrium and myoma tissue were found to be 10.29+-1.84%, and 9.38+-2.05% respectively. The conversion rate of Estradiol 17-B to estrone by normal myometrium was 5.92+-1.57% and that by myoma tissue was 6.97+-1.46%. In addition to the 17-B-hydroxysteroid oxidoreductase activity, it was possible to find the existence of sulfokinase activity in the both tissue preparations. However, there was no sighnificant difference of the activity between the two tissue. The results showed that there no sighnificant differrence in uptake of radioacitve estrogens or ability of the conversion of Estradiol 17-B to estrone. Nevertheless the lack of differences between the two tissues suggested that myoma tissue may have the same estrogen trapping mechanism as normal myometrium.
