아우구스티누스의 내적인 말론 : 말함과 사유함의 사태 관련성 the relationship of speech and thought with subject matter = Augustine's Theory of the Inner Word

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글의 목적은 아우구스티누스의 내적인 말론의 내용과 의미를, 구체적으로 그 이론에서 핵심을 이루고 있는 말함과 사유함의 사태 관련성을 해석학적 관점에서 고찰하는 것이다. 아우구스티누스의 내적인 말론은 고대의 언어관뿐만 아니라, 유명론적이고 협약주의적 근거를 가진 근대의 언어이론으로부터도 구별된다. 그러나 다른 의미에서 그의 내적인 말론은 의사소통과 해석학의 현재적 분야에서 새롭게 논의되고 있다. 그 둘은 불가피하게 언어와 관련되어 있다. 그의 내적인 말론은 그 둘의 분야에 중요한 원리를 제공한다. 이런 의미에서 아우구스티누스의 내적인 말론의 탐구는 의사소통뿐만 아니라, 가다머의 해석학적 경험의 기획을 살펴보는데 필요하다. 그의 해석학적 기획은 새로운 언어관을 골간으로 하여 전개하고자 한다. 이 새로운 언어관은 말함과 사유함의 사태 관련성을 드러내고 있는 아우구스티누스의 내적인 말론에서 발견될 수 있다. 이 사태적 관련성을 해명하기 위해 그것을 위해 먼저 말에 대한 아우구스티누스의 견해의 변화를 살펴본다. 그 다음으로 내적인 말이 무엇을 의미하는지, 그 말이 어디에서 형성되는지, 그리고 그 말의 진리성이 어떻게 보장될 수 있는지를 살펴본다. 그리고 내적인 말론에서 드러나고 있는 사태, 내적인 말 그리고 사유함의 상호 공속성을 플라톤의 언어관과 비교가운데 좀 더 자세하게 고찰할 것이다. 아우구스티누스의 내적인 말론은, 말을 사태로부터 분리하고 그것을 단지 사유의 도구로만 간주하는 경향을 극복하려는 현대적 논의에 중요한 통찰을 제공한다. 더 나아가 그의 내적인 말론은, 해석학적 경험을 말함과 사유함의 사태 관련성에 근거 지으려는 가다머의 철학적 해석학에 결정적인 기초를 제공한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this essay is to examine from a hermeneutical standpoint the central content and meaning of Augustine's theory of the inner word, in particular the relationship of speech and thought with subject matter, which Augustine deals with in »trinitate«. The theory of the inner word is distinguished not only from the ancient view of language but also from the modern, that is the nominalistic and conventional foundation. But in another sense the theory of the inner word is discussed anew in the contemporary fields of communication and hermeneutics, which both are related inevitably with language. This theory gives important principles and insight to those fields. In this sense, the investigation of Augustine's theory of the inner word is necessary for the examination of Gadamer's program of hermeneutical experience, which tries to develop on the basis of a new view of language. This new view of language is found in Augustine's theory of the inner word, which presents the relationship of speech and thought with subject matter. To elucidate this relationship of speech and thought with subject matter, this essay first surveys the change of Augustine's view of the word, which is suggested in his works. Then it investigates the meaning of the inner word, its source, and the guarantee of its truthfulness. Finally it inquires about the correlation between subject matter, the inner word, and thinking in comparison with Plato's view of language in detail.
Augustine's theory of the inner word gives important insights to contemporary discussions, that tries to overcome the tendency to separate the word from the subject matter and to regard it only as an instrument of thinking. Further, it contributes a decisive foundation to Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics, that tries to found hermeneutical experience on the relatedness of speech and thought with subject matter.
