The purpose of the study was to examine the interaction effects of gender and class types on students` attitude toward physical education, self-efficacy, and outcome expectancy as well as the relationships between these variables. The participants were 716 middle school students (376 boys, 340 girls). Multivariate analysis with 2×2 factorial design and correlation analysis were conducted. The results of MANOVA indicated that the interaction effects of gender and class types were significant in enjoyment, perceived usefulness, and outcome expectancy, but were insignificant in self-efficacy. Correlation analysis showed that two dimensions of attitude toward physical education were positively associated with each of self-efficacy and outcome expectancy. In conclusion, the results imply that physical educators should try to facilitate a positive attitude toward physical education for female students in same-sex classes and recognize them to be able to get a desirable outcome from physical activities.
