The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of school dance instruction on the self-confidence, sociability and self-realization of middle school students in an effort to raise awareness of the importance of school dance education for adolescent students and seek ways of revitalizing dance education. The subjects in this study were the students who took a dance class on a weekly basis at two selected schools in North Chungcheong Province. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 311 respondents were analyzed. To address the research questions of the study, the statistical package SPSS 18.0 was employed, and t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were carried out. The findings of the study were as follows: First, there were differences among the students in self- confidence, sociability and self-realization according to their personal characteristics. Second, there were differences in self-confidence, sociability and self-realization according to the characteristics of their experiences of taking dance classes. Third, self-confidence exerted a significant influence on sociability in school dance instruction. Fourth, self-confidence had a significant impact on self-realization in school dance instruction.
