In order to know the actualities of medical treatment of practising specialists, we conducted the survey from 1,038 medical specialists among the 2,569 practising specialists who installed the private clinic, registered at the Korean Medical Association in the year of 1980. The period of data collection was from May 1st 1981 to the September 30th 1981 and the collected data were analyzed by age, location of clinic and majoring subject difference.
Followings are the results therefrom:
1. 94% of practising specialist installed the private clinic at city or large city(Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon).
But the rate of that was higher in the age below 50, general surgery and OB & GY at Eup & Myon.
2. 54.2% of practising specialist treated patient of majoring subject only.
The rate became higher by older the age and larger the cities. The rate of OB & GY was 76.9%, pediatrics was 65.4%, others was 61.6%. But that of general surgery was only 7.5%.
3. 45.8% of practising specialist treated the patient of not majoring subject. The rate of that was higher at Eup & Myon.
That was highest in general surgery(92.5%), but that became lowered by older the age.
4. The reasons for the treatment of patient of majoring subject only were mainly "To give a substantial treatment" and "Simply, one's majoring subject".
There were no distinct differences between ages and between location of clinics. The rate of "To give a substantial treatment" was higher at basic 4 department(internal medicine, pediatrics, OB & GY, general surgery), but that of "Simply, one's majoring subject" was higher at other department.
5. The reasons for the treatment of patient of not majoring subject were mainly "Able to treat of not majoring subject" at the age of thirties. But that of "Request of patients or their neighboring" became higher by older the age and larger the cities.
6. 60.5% of practising specialist responded "May treat the patient of not majoring subject".
The rate of that was higher in general surgery.
The rate of "Shouldn't treat the patient of not majoring subject" was higher in OB & GY and pediatrics.
7. Most of the practising specialists responded that the quality of medical treatment served to the patient of not majoring subject was bad. And there were no distinct differenes between ages and between location of clinics. But 80% of general surgery answered "Good quality" or "Little influence to the quality".
8. To serve good medical care, 52.3%o of practising specialist wanted the establishment of effective medical delivery system.
To raised the change of the medical insurence was 29.1%, and to restrict the service area of the medical specialist to the general hospital was 12.2%.
9. 46.1% of practising specialist responded that treatment of the patient of not majoring subject is make difficult to establish the effective medical delivery system. 22.3% of that responded "Little influence". "Little influence"was high in Eup & Myon and general surgery.
The rate of "Make difficult to establish the effective medical delivery system" was high in OB & GY and other special departments.
