소설교육에서의 ‘시점’ 개념에 대한 반성적 고찰 = A Reflective Study on the Concept of ‘Point of view’in Novel Education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article aims to examine theoretical concepts of novel which are used in literature education of Middle schools and High schools, with a particular focus on the concept of ‘point of view’.
The usage of theoretical concepts of novel in educational programs and textbooks has shown a considerable variation and it may cause confusion to learners. In case of ‘point of view’, the main problems are disagreement over the terms and confused usage of narrator and author.
I believe the problem arises from the fact the reception of the concept ‘point of view’.
in the early introductory literary studies books was confusing. That is, while Understanding Fiction modified the concepts, we have sticked to the first meaning. Especially, in the third-person point of view, ‘author’ being confused with ‘narrator’ is the main problem. The terms like ‘observers' point of view’ or ‘omniscient point of view’ make learners have a mistaken idea that the author is directly engaged in narration, which causes confusion to learners when they understand novels.
Since the confusion in basic theory can lead to the distortion of overall frame of novel education, it is urgent to establish the theory based on social consensus and related research societies are required to come forward to deal with the problem.
