This paper is intended as an investigation of the building arrangement of Sinreuksa Temple, centering around the theory of Fengshui. The analysis was mainly conducted on the basis of the field study and the related literature materials of Sinreuksa Temple.
In this study, the entire analysis of Sinreuksa Temple was performed by means of that of Naeryong, Hyungguk, the topography of water(水勢), the hole in the propitious site(穴場), and the shape of each mountain peak(砂格) based on the Baesanimsoo theory.
In particular, this study placed primary emphasis on the analysis of Bibo fengshui, and examined closely the fengshui geographic actors that Sinreuksa Temple got to develop while still retaining its dignity and status even after more than a thousand years.
Through the inquiry into the antique literature and related research on the history of Sinreuksa Temple, the history of the geographical location and the appearances described in antique maps were examined and the folk tales of foundation and the background of reconstruction concerned with this temple were also studied.
Sinreuksa Temple played a role in the royal one where royal family prayed to Buddha for Yeongreung(英陵) and Neungreung(寧陵). This respect of Sinreuksa Temple was studied closely.
Analyzing manysided features of Sinreuksa Temple from the viewpoint of fengshui, this study would search for the fengshui geographic reasons why it could be kept undiminished during the period of long history.
In addition to analyzing the temple fengshui and the diagram of the flow of the mountain vein(용맥) in order to look for the grounds, the study would examine even the magnitude of all the perspectives to be seen from Sinreuksa Temple(神勒寺의 局勢) and carry out the various analyses of the fengshui of this temple.
In the related fengshui geographic analysis studied using the concept of 'Animate Energy'(生氣), which is difficult to prove in reality, it is invisible by eyes and cannot be touched by hand. But it was found that the Chinese juniper more than 600 years old which can realistically prove the reality of alive 'Earth Energy' through this study exists in Sinreuksa Temple.
Since the Chinese juniper full of 'Animate Energy' has been passed on to us as a piece of evidence of 'Animate Energy' for more than 600 years, the photograph of this tree was attached to this paper.
In addition, the study found that it is incorrectly said that the mountain range going down to Sinreuksa Temple is Hannam JeongMaek[Mountains](漢南正脈) and the higher mountain in the back of the guardian one of Sinreuksa Temple(神勒寺의 少祖山) is Mt. Bongmi.
By the way, the findings of this investigation showed that the mountain range going down to Sinreuksa Temple is Hangang ChiMaek[Energy Vein](漢江氣脈) setting out in Mt. Odae and the higher mountain in the back of the guardian one of Sinreuksa Temple is Mt. Udu, not Mt. Bongmi.
Therefore, it is hoped by me that the contents of the fengshui, which have been mistaken with respect to Sinreuksa Temple in the meanwhile, can be corrected through the result of this study.
