The gold-silver-fluorite deposits which are located in Wanju area are composed of several fissure filling veins emplaced in age unknown meta-sedimentary rocks. The mines which had developed the ore deposits were abandoned several years ago. The geochemistry of waters from the abandoned mines in the Wanju area was investigated to provided some basic data for the management of acid mine drainage(AMD). The water quality of AMD was characterized by low pH, high conductivity, high contents of heavy metals and fluorine. This affected the quality of surface water and top soil around the flourite associated with mineralization. The treatment of AMD should be performed to prevent the conditions of water and soil from deteriorating further.
