“가련한 인생” vs “소중한 존재” = “The miserable life” vs “The valuale life” : The narrative analysis of alcoholism with positive psychology

국문 초록 (Abstract)

알코올 중독의 치료는 이전으로의 복귀가 아니라 회복의 과정 중에 있는 것을 의미한다. 이들은 진단분류 기준, 정신분석의 관점, 성격 5요인, 사회 환경의 차원의 눈으로 볼 때 미숙한 정서와 사회 부적응자로서 이해된다. 하지만 긍정 심리학의 관점으로 알코올 중독자의 회복의 과정을 해석해 본다면 중독자라는 부정적 호칭에서 ‘회복되어 가는 과정 중에 있는 사람’으로 이해하게 된다. 이 글은 상담자가 지난 6개월간 만났던 알코올 중독자의 내러티브를 중심으로 분석한 글이다. 그는 1년 이상의 단주를 유지하고 있었다. 단주의 유지를 가능하게 했던 강점과 자원에 대한 탐구를 통해서 그가 만난 하나님의 사랑이 그에게 단주를 유지하게 해준 가장 큰 자원이었으며 가족과 병원장, 의미 있는 인물들의 믿음이었음을 발견하였다. 상담자와의 만남을 통해서 실패자로 인식했던 자신의 이야기를 해체하고 소중한 존재로서 또 다른 알코올 중독자들에게 도움이 되는 삶을 살고자하는 새로운 이야기로 재구성하는 과정을 다루었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The treatment for alcoholism does not mean recovering to one’s original state. It means being in the process of recuperation. The treatment for alcoholism is so difficult that its reported recurrence rate is higher than 70 percent. In the eyes of diagnostic standards, psychoanalytic perspective, five personality functions, and social environment, these alcoholics are understood as a person of immature emotion and a social misfit. However, if the recuperation process of alcoholics is interpreted in the perspective of positive psychology, the alcoholics are understood as “a person undergoing recuperation”, rather than “alcoholic”, which contains a negative connotation. This article centrally analyzed the narratives of alcoholics, whom the counselor met in the past 6 months. He has been sober for over a year. Through researching the resource and strength that helped him to stay free from alcohol, we found that God’s love and the faith of his family and his loved ones had in him was the biggest resource for his sobriety. Also, it deals with a restructuring of its story when he, as a precious being, decides to live his life helping other alcoholics after dispersing his self-perception of being a failure by talking to the counselor.
