그로테스크, 파생성(破生性)의 미학 = Grotesque, Aesthetic of Destructive Creation

This study attempts to explore the identity or the nature of the Grotesque by approaching it through the concept of destructive creation.
Here, destructive creation is a concept proposed by the author. The term destructive creation emphasizes destructive and revolutionary power, particularly the collapse of time in the form of “creation preceded by death”appearing in the Grotesque. This nature of the Grotesque is evident in the Modern era’s mutilated, disintegrated, and fragmented representations of the body. Bakhtin viewed these as elements of the Grotesque style, which also appeared in Montaigne’s literature in the 16th century. This article starts from the aspects of mutilated representations of the body and focuses on the problem of time inherent in them. Furthermore, we will examine the possibilities of approaching the topic using the ideas from anachronism and anachrony.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 사회, 문화 및 현대미술을 관찰하며 다종다기한 형태로 나타나는 일련의 두드러진 표출방식 즉, 그로테스크에 주목한다. 사실, 전통 미학의 이단아로서 그로테스크는 부정적인 인상, 느낌, 그리고 미적 판단을 불러일으킬 수 있는 다양한 요소들로 가득하다. 기이한 점은 그럼에도 불구하고 그것은 수용자에게 모순된 반응을(‘불편하지만 매력적인’, ‘두렵지만 보고 싶은’) 일으켜왔으며, 이를 통해 ‘그로테스크란 무엇인가?’라는 질문을 지속적으로 던지도록 해왔다. 본 연구는 그로테스크의 본성 내지는 정체성을 탐구하고자 하며 이를 “파생성(破生性)”의 개념으로 접근해 보고자 한다. 파생성이란 저자가 제시하는 용어이다. 생성을 의미하지만 파괴, 전복적인힘을 강조하고, 그로테스크에서 나타나는 ‘죽음을 앞세운 탄생’이란 시간의 붕괴 경향을 부각시키는 용어이다. 이 그로테스크의 파생성의 특징을 잘 관찰할 수 있는 곳은 몸이며, 보다 구체적으로는 근대적인 재현의 세계에서 부상한 잘리고, 분화되고, 파편화된 몸이다. 바흐친은 이러한 몸의 특성을 그로테스크 형식의 일부로 보았다.
그것은 16세기 몽테뉴의 글쓰기 형식에서도 나타난다. 논문은 이러한 잘린 몸의 특성에서 출발하여 그 안에 잠재한 시간성의 문제에 관심을 둔다. 그리고 그것을 화살 시간의 붕괴 경향, 또는 아나크로니즘(anachronism)내지는 아나크로니(annachrony)의 개념으로 접근할 가능성을 또한 타진해 보고자 한다.
