This paper attempts to examine the present conditions of the Saemaul Movement, also to analyzed the changing structure of leadership and the influence on the movement of community organizations. This study is based not only on a bibliograpical research but also on the questionnare investigation into problems concerning four aspeccts;the influence of community organizations, the achievements of the Saemaul Movement, the adoption of new technology, and the cooperation of village residents.
The questionnare was answered by 600 educated rural residents in the kyungpuk privince, whose ages ranged 21~65 and who belonged to middle class. The response of the guestionnare dealt with in this paper is only the first of the four aspects, that is, the influence upon leadership in the Saemaul Movement of the community organization.
In conclusion, this paper may be summarized as follows:
1) The Saemaul Movement has made a great success. So far the success has been resulted from the exercise of strong leadership by both the government and the few among villagers. In accordance with the development of the rural community especailly the rise of the living standard of rural residents, culturally and economically, the type of leadership is apt to shift from bossism or headism to multi-pluralism.
2) The influence of community organizations such as the Myun office, the agricultural guide office, the farmers cooperative soiety, and the community school, differs from one another; while the activity of the first two is influential, that of the last is little effective.
3) To make the community organization and development more efficient, trained professional workers should be offered to the villages.
