Korean mythology indicates that the founder of the nation came from the Heaven. For instance, Tankun was from the Heaven and the founders of Silla and Kaya were born by eggs which discended from the Heaven.
When we observe the Heaven in this mythological sense, the Heaven is the mother's womb of life as well as the birth place of our mythodology. The Heaven has often been related to the light, but in this paper, the Heaven is considered as the place of giving life and the source of reproduction.
(1) When we loo kat the origin of the heaven as the Big Egg, we can see that the ancient peoples respect for the Heaven was not based on the fact that the Heaven gives the light, but presents creation. The respect for the Heaven means the respect for the Egg, life and creation.
(2) The religious service for the Heaven including dancing and drumming after the seeding and harvesting implies that the Heaven is the place of giving life and reproduction.
(3) The facts that the birth of our nation's founder was associated with the sun and the name of the king included the sun show the ancient people respected the san, and the sun was believed to perform a reproduction function. Needless to say, the sun is the very thing which gives the life and energy which are necessary for the growth of living things.
(4) The fact that the moon is related to a good harvest and the life shows that the moon is associated with reproduction.
(5) The fact that a star is related to a dream of conception reflects that a star is associated with reproduction. In all, the ancient people believed that Heaven means the place of providing life and reproduction, and God in the Heaven was the Creator. As they thought the god of the sea was the dragon and the god of the mountain was the tiger, the bird was considered to represent the god of the Heaven.
(6) As said before, the ancient people believed that The god of the sea was the dragon. When we examine the origin of the dragon which means the Galaxy, the ancient people seemed to believe that in the Heaven there existed the river through which water came and this water was the source of the growth for a living thing.
