For the purpose of understanding the social traits of early Choson as well as the social change of late Yi dynasty, I investigated on the literature on the 2nd King Chongjong of Choson dynast, The main results follow.
1. Few researchers have so for concentrated on him to reveal his historic role and status.
2. In his youth from 21 through 36, which fell on late Koryo dynasty, Chongjong served in a high post of second B degree for his excellent mititary merit. The fact that his other brothers also held high posts may have contributed to the founding of a new dynasty.
3. Even though Chongjong was not so positive as to meddle in the Muin After like the 3rd and 4th sons of Taejo, Yi dynasty founder, the 3rd King Taejong helped him ascend the throne for Taejong's own interest.
4. Chongjong's superb military talent was conversely used to focus on his poor ability to lead a kingdom. His military power on the base of those subjects chosen by Taejong, therefore, made him a very weak figure.
5. He was dethroned and without a posthumous title for a long time owing to the idea of King Taejong who aied 2 years after him in the 3rd year of Sejong the Great's reign. Though the titles like Anjong and Huijong were talked about in the 8th King Yejong's reign, the 19th King Sukchong settled it.
In sum, Taejong's appearance following the Muin Affair resulted in a great whirlwind of purge and conciliation. Another interesting teak is to reveal the driving force of a great social change in Sukchong's reign.
