This study aims at the understanding of the relationship among mothers young child-rearing attitude, the economic education of children and the young childrens consumption behavior, at the examination of the every valuables that influence them, by doing this, at lightening the meaning that the significance of home, especially mothers role in the young childrens economic education, and at the suggestion of necessary basic data in order to educate them to do desirable consumption behaviors.
The subjects are the mothers of 5-6 year old 290 male and female children who go to the early childhood education centers and live in Seoul.
The tools adopted at this study to measure mothers rearing attitude and children economic education were the parent rearing attitude measure tool used by Hong, Gaeok(1994) and the examination tool for children economic education used by Han, Heegyung(1998), respectively. The measurement of consumption behavior of young children implies estimation of how rationally they perform the actual consumption. A modified questionnaire based on the one used earlier by Gwon, Meehwa(2000) and Gwak, Hyunjung(2003) was prepared for children consumption behavior.
The conclusions of this study are as follows.
First, the more the reasoning guidance, limit setting, and the affection attitude are in the rearing attitude of mother, the better the mothers do the life guidance, economic education, and consumption education.
Second, the higher the reasoning guidance, limit setting and affection attitude are in the mothers rearing attitude, the more rational the young childrens purchasing behavior, using behavior and disposition behavior are.
Third, the more the mother do the life guidance and economic education to the children, the more rational the young childrens purchasing behavior, using behavior and disposition behavior become, and the more the mother do the consumption education to the children, the more rational the young childrens using behavior and disposition behavior become.
Fourth, the more rational the mothers rearing attitude is, the better the limit setting become, and the higher the affection is, the better the economic education about the children and the rational the childrens consumption behavior become.
