The rates of the solysis for 2-thenoyl chloride has been measured in aquenus acetonitrile and aqueous methanol from 10 to 35℃ by means conductmetry.
The solvent effect and mechanism have been discussed in term of variation in solvent composition and activation parameter.
The result showed that the reaction proceeds with the SN2+SN1 mechanism in water rich solvents whereas the SN2 character increases with the decrease of water content, due to bond breaking increased with the increase of water content, and overall reaction is subject t entropy control.
This phenomena was similar to that in ethanol-water and aceton-water mixtures.
