International Politics, as the words show in themselves, is an academic discipline that explores the politics among nations(inter-nations). Indeed, the existing studies in International Politics have paid attention to bilateral or multilateral relations among nation-states as dominant players in international politics. Various changes of these days, however, are creating a more complex politics, which cannot be grasped from the traditional perspective, which assumes nation-states as major nodes(or actors), and examines links between those nodal actors. For example, newly increasing are transnational activities of networked actors, which bypass the nodes of nation-states and interact directly to one another. Coping with these changes, nation-states themselves as nodal actors are also being transformed into a form of networked entity from inside as well as toward outside. Indeed, we are currently observing a multi-level competition between the traditional politics upheld by nation-states and the new politics boosted by networked actors, which could be called the so-called inter-network politics. In this context, this paper attempts to apply the network theory, which has been presented by natural and social scientists, to International Politics, and aims to develop the Network Theory of World Politics(NTWP) in a preliminary manner.
