Data from the 2022 Consumer Empowerment Index for Adults(4th ed.) by the Korea Consumer Agency were analyzed. A nationally represetative sample of 4,000 respondents aged 20 and older were examined to identify factors influencing financial behaviors both in the total and across six distinct age groups. The key results were as follows: (1) In the analysis of the total respondent group, sound financial behaviors were significantly associated with financial knowledge and attitude, digital transaction capabilities, gender, age, marital status, single-person household status, employment status, and subjective social status. Among these factors, digital transaction capabilities had the strongest impact; (2) When analyzed by age group, financial knowledge was a significant factor in the 20s, 60s, and 70s groups, while financial attitude was associated with better financial behaviors in the 30s, 50s, 60s, and 70s groups. Digital transaction capabilities were significant across all groups. (3) Regarding gender and other demographic characteristics, female respondents across all groups (except those in their 70s), single individuals in their 40s and 70s, married individuals in their 30s and 70s, education level in the 60s, and being employment status in the 20s group were significant factors of influencing sound financial behaviors. Additionally, income level was significant in the 50s and subjective social status in the 70s. Overall, digital transaction capabilities emerged as the most influential factor in promoting sound financial behaviors irrespective of age group. The results of this study provide an empirical foundation for the development of customized education aimed at enhancing digital transaction capabilities as well as financial knowledge and attitude to foster improve financial behaviors.
