『東文選』 소재 五言排律의 選詩 樣相에 대하여 = A Study on the Zen Poetry Patterns of Five-Character Pailus in Dongmunseon

This study set out to examine the patterns of Zen poems in the five-character pailu form in Dongmunseon. Pailus had been recognized as a poetic style since Yuan, and pailu works were arranged in Lee Jon's anthology, Danginoeonbaeryulseon. Five-character pailus had long been created consistently, being used for the poetry albums at Eungjes and state exams in China. Seven-character pailus were utilized relatively more around Chanwoonsangsu among literary figures. There is no clear distinction between five- and seven-character pailu contexts and choices based on them, but there is an overall tendency between them. Chinese anthologies published before Dongmunseon mainly contain five-character pailus with the ceremonial pailus taking the center in the overall tendencies. Pailus also showed a tendency of being created by expanding into private areas and were freely utilized in the domain of daily life. Reflecting this flow of pailu poems, Dongmunseon‧Oeonbaeyul contained pailu poems in various aspects. This can also be seen as a trend of creating poems among the literary figures that accepted and utilized pailu poems since Goryeo.
The present study examined the three tendencies of five-character pailus in Dongmunseon, and they include "emphasis on the functionality of pailus," "acceptance of pailus in diverse lengths" and "acceptance of pailus with lyrical nature." An emphasis on the functionality of pailus represents the aspect that fully reflects the original purpose of creating five-character pailus. The acceptance of pailus in diverse lengths was to overcome Chinese anthologies that put a relative limit on the length of pailus. The acceptance of pailus with lyrical nature reflects the historical flow of pailu poems that expanded from the area of ceremonial nature to that of personal daily life. The tendency of Zen poems among the five-character pailus in Dongmunseon reflects clearly the history of pailu poems as part of the literary history as well as the literary capabilities of literary figures that created pailu works since Goryeo.
