      The psychological outcomes of recreation participation have been reported in various ways to be covered with physical benefits, relaxation, pleasurable experience, autonomy, and self-actualization.
      This study attempted to investigate, through readings of related research and other documents, the possible contributions of recreation participation to reduce stresses causing by life events. It is generally believed that recreation offers an avenue to reduce physical and mental discomforts, however it has not been clearly proved that by what and how made that changes, particularly psychologically.
      In this study, the two variables, 'coherence' and 'social support' were chosen as predictors by which participation in recreation could lead to buffering mental and physical life stresses. The main reason of this was that the two factors were known as valuable techniques in coping with stress, and at the same time recreation could enforce the state levels of these two preconditions.
      In the study, the term, 'coherence' refers to the mental ability and attitudes by which one understands the stressful situations and willing to accept the stress to be thought as inevitable. This attitude let one try actively to search the effective ways to reduce one's stress, and concentrates in encountering the problem situation. The word, 'social support' means that social and human connections which was formed by individual social living, and the situation of one could get necessary help from these relations when personal problems occur such as stress. Social supports would include all types of psychological and material assistance such as understanding, intimacy, love, and giving informations , foods, shelters, or other needed things.
      The possibility that recreation participation could strengthen coherence and social support is evident, because participation in recreation is Possible when free will is executed, and it is accompanied by other reactions such as decision making, selections, discard, control self and environment, and taking initiatives. These processes link directly to make coherence be strengthened. At the same time, participation in recreation is operated mostly in gregarious types which means exchange the thoughts and feelings with others, and some amounts of personal contacts be made among the Participants. Under this circumstance, it definitely be possible to make kinds of social ties which friendship is in the base, and this illustrates the enforcement of social support.
      It was indicated that these two variables could greatly influence to lessen the life stresses since the professionals proclaim that individual cognition and attitude is more important than the nature of stress itself for an effective coping with stress .
      In summary, a conclusion could be drawn as recreation participation could have buffering effects for life stresses either mental or physical, through its benefits namely 'coherence' as psychological condition, and 'social support' as interpersonal relationship However it should be noted that the intensity and duration of involvement of these two states could make a big differences in coping with the problems of life stress.
