내부현금보유액과 부채비율에 따른 자산처분의 가치관련성 = The Impact of Internal Cash Holdings, Debt Ratio on Relationship between the Disposal Assets and Value Relevance of Firm: The Decline of Firm in Life-Cycle Stages

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 기업수명주기 하에서 쇠퇴기업을 대상으로 자산처분이 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 검증하고자 한다. 이 분야 선행연구에서는 자산처분이 이익조정의 도구로 인식하였으며 기업가치에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 가능성을 제안하였다(김경열 1998). 하지만 본 연구에서는 쇠퇴기업의 경우 자금조달의 목적으로 자산처분 의사결정과 관련이 있으며 이러한 자산처분으로 인한 현금유입은 기업가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 보았다. 그리고 이러한 현금유입은 미래투자와 연결되어 기업가치에 영향을 미칠 수 있으며 재무적인 건전성 혹은 유동성 확보를 통하여 기업의 가치관련성을 설명할 수 있다고 보았다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 내부현금 유보액과 부채비율의 역할에 관심을 갖고 이러한 요인이 자산처분과 기업가치의 관계에 영향을 미치는지 검증해 보았다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 검증을 위하여 2000년부터 2014년까지 금융업에 속하지 않으며 몇 가지 조건을 충족하는 1,544개(기업-년)을 대상으로 표본을 추출하였다.
실증분석의 결과 쇠퇴단계 기업의 자산처분 인식은 기업가치에 양(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 내부현금보유 수준과 부채비율 측정치는 자산처분 현금유입액, 자산처분손익 모두 기업가치를 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 유·무형자산의 처분 뿐 아니라 투자자산에서도 나타난 결과로 쇠퇴기업의 자산처분에 대한 의사결정은 이익조정 수단 외에 투자활동 관련 측면에서 고려할 필요성이 있을 것으로 보인다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines whether disposal assets has an effect on value relevance of firms or not. Research in accounting area suggest that event of disposal assets has performed role of earnings management. Therefore, these research show results that this event has a negative effect on valuation of firm(Kim 1998). But, this study suggests that event about disposal assets related decision making for rasing funds of firm in decline stage. Also, financing due to disposal assets activity has a positive effects on value relevance of firm in decline stage. These financing impact on valuation of firm through these financing effect on future investments, safety, or decreasing of liquidity crisis. Therefore this study examines whether internal cash holdings and financial leverage effect on valuation of disposal assets event in firms in decline stage.
We empirically analyzed 1,544 listed firm-years with the fiscal year-end in December but non-banking industry over 2000-2014. The results of analysis show that the event about disposal assets has positive effects on relevance of value. Also, internal cash holdings and debt ratio effect on firm’s valuation of cash-flow and earnings due to disposal assets. These results show both intangible/tangible assets and investment assets. Therefore, decision making about disposal assets have the possibility with purposes for not only earnings managements but also growth opportunities, investments in decline firms.
