주의 강림과 구름 속으로 끌어 올려진 성도들 : 살전 4:16-17에 나타난 바울의 종말론과 목회적 관심사 = The Lord Will Come Down and the Saints Will Be Caught Up in the Clouds: Paul’s Eschatology and Pastoral Focus in 1 Thess 4:16-17

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The intention of this article is to understand Paul’s eschatology by examining the background of 1 Thess 4:16-17. Many scholars agree on the existence of Paul’s eschatology in this passage, but they have not come to an agreement regarding on the background of it. This article will analyze the passage to find out Paul’s main point in this argument, and how it is related to the “Lord’s own word” in v. 15. Furthermore, this article will compare the passage against two passages which often has been acknowledged as the background of 1 Thess 4:16-17, i.e., Dan 7:1314 and Matt 24:30-31. This will highlight Paul’s unique eschatological understanding which is presented in the function of the clouds and the saints at the Lord’s Parousia. Paul’s eschatological understanding and explanation is inextricably linked with the urgent challenges that the Thessalonians were facing. Thus, through his eschatological explanation, Paul gives the Thessalonians both the confirmation of their Christian hope and also the message of encouragement.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 살전 4:16-17의 배경에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 바울의 종말론 에 대한 고찰을 목표로 하고 있다. 많은 학자들이 이 본문에 바울의 종말론 이 나타난다는 점에서는 동의하지만, 그 배경에 대해서는 아직 합의점을 찾 지 못하였다. 본 논문은 살전 4:16-17의 본문을 분석하여 바울의 강조점이 본 문의 논의 가운데 어디에 있는지 이해하고, 그것이 15절의 “주의 말씀”이라 는 표현과 어떻게 관련 있는지 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 본문의 배경이라고 논 의된 단 7:13-14와 마 24:30-31을 비교하여 바울이 본문에서 설명하는 종말 론의 독특한 면모를 연구하고자 한다. 바울은 살전 4:16-17에서 구름의 용도 를 통해서 주님의 재림 때 성도들의 역할에 대해서 설명을 한다. 이는 그 당 시 데살로니가 성도들이 당면하고 있던 위기의 문제와 연결되어 있고, 따라 서 바울은 종말론에 대한 설명을 통해서 그들에게 기독교 소망에 대한 확신 을 회복해 주는 동시에 위로의 메세지를 전하고 있다.
