Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify in-depth the burnout experience of infection control nurses according to the outbreak of
new infectious diseases: focusing on COVID-19.
Method : This study is a qualitative study to explore and describe in-depth the experiences of infection control nurses according to the occurrence of new infectious diseases through a phenomenological approach. One-on-one in-depth interviews were conducted with infection control nurses who have worked in the infection control room (team) for more than 1 year, and the results were analyzed using the phenomenological method of Colaizzi (1978). increases when new infectious diseases occur, it is necessary to have a system for improving appropriate treatment by comprehensively grasping their exhaustion experiences.
Results : The topics raised by the participants were categorized into 6 topics. The subjects were <Burden as an infection control nurse> <Environment that causes heavy work> <Uncertainty of new infectious diseases> <Tension with colleagues and other departments> <Lack of personal achievement due to inadequate compensation> <Conflict due to implementation of guidelines>.
conclusion : As the importance of infection control nurses increases when new infectious diseases occur, it is necessary to have a system for improving appropriate treatment by comprehensively grasping their exhaustion experiences.
