발리 엑스포트(VALIE EXPORT) 퍼포먼스의 신체와 권력의 상호작용 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

발리 엑스포트(VALIE EXPORT)는 페미니즘 미술과 퍼포먼스 아트의 선구자로, 그녀의 작업은 신체를 매개로 권력의 작동 방식을 비판적으로 탐구하며 젠더와 권력 구조를 해체하는 전략을 제시한 다. 본 연구는 그녀의 대표작 <TAPP und TASTKINO (1968)>와 <Aktionhose: Genitalpanik (1969)>을 중심으로, 신체와 권력의 관계를 분석하고 이를 미셸 푸코의 권력 이론과 연결하여 고찰한다. 푸코의 규율 권력과 생체 권력 개념을 적용하여 엑스포트의 작업이 기존의 권력 구조를 어떻게 전복하고 새로운 주체화를 시도하는지를 분석하며, 이러한 논의를 통해 그녀의 퍼포먼스가 현대 페미니즘 미술 과 퍼포먼스 아트에 미친 영향을 조명한다. 엑스포트의 작품은 현대 사회에서도 유효한 시사점을 제공한다. 푸코의 권력 이론이 디지털 환경에서 더욱 정교하게 확장됨에 따라, 여성 신체는 온라인 미디어와 알고리즘을 통해 새로운 방식으로 규율되고 감시된다. 본 연구는 이러한 맥락에서 엑스포트 의 작업이 오늘날의 권력 구조에 대한 비판적 성찰을 가능하게 하며, 신체를 저항과 주체 형성의 장으로 재구성하는 방식을 탐구하는 데 기여함을 밝힌다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 엑스포트의 퍼포먼스를 단순한 과거의 예술 실천이 아닌, 현대적 의미에서 지속적인 비판과 논의가 필요한 예술적 개입으로 재평가하고자 한다.

VALIE EXPORT is a pioneer of feminist art and performance art, and her work critically explores the mechanisms of power through the medium of the body, presenting a strategy to dismantle gender and power structures. This study focuses on her representative works, <TAPP und TASTKINO (1968)> and <Aktionhose: Genitalpanik (1969)>, analyzing the relationship between the body and power and examining them in connection with Michel Foucault’s theory of power. By applying Foucault’s concepts of disciplinary power and biopower, this study analyzes how EXPORT’s work subverts existing power structures and attempts a new form of subjectivation. Through this discussion, it aims to highlight the impact of her performances on contemporary feminist art and performance art. EXPORT’s works remain relevant in contemporary society. As Foucault’s theory of power has been refined and expanded in the digital environment, the female body continues to be regulated and surveilled in new ways through online media and algorithms. In this context, this study demonstrates that EXPORT’s work enables a critical reflection on today’s power structures and contributes to the exploration of how the body can be reconstructed as a site of resistance and subject formation. Through this, this study seeks to reassess EXPORT’s performances not merely as past artistic practices but as artistic interventions that require continuous critique and discourse in a contemporary context.
