This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of electrokinetic phenomena on surfactant flushing of diesel-contaminated soils. A plexiglass column of 5㎝ ID × 10㎝ H was packed with sandy soil and sodium dodesylsulfate(SDS) was used as a surfactant. Pt electrodes were used to apply the 15mA of constant current. The diesel removal by SDS was influenced by the polarity of applied electric field. Diesel recovery was higher when the SDS pumped at cathodic side even though the electroosmotic flow rate decreased. This is because the electrophoretic mobility of SDS towards anode was greater than its electroosmotic retardation.
