There are large outcrops artificlally formed by the construction works at Kumgok area. Youngdeok county. This article discusses the characteristics of sedimentary facies of the outcrops and the geomorphic development of the marine terraces in the study area. It also Investigates the relationship between the geomorphic features of coastal and inland areas as compared with the sedimentary facies of the marine terraces already investigated in previous studies. The results are summarized in the followings. 1. There are three different layers of the marine terrace in the study area: The Chilbosan surface at 35-40m a.s.l, is sedimented with the deeply weathered gravels; the Kumgok surface at 19-24m a.s.l, which truncated the Chilbosan surface is sedimented with the partially weathered gravels; and the lowest surface is located at 5-8m a.s.l. 2. The Chilbosan and Kumkok surface are related to the high and middle layer of fluvial terrace, respectively when compared the weathered gravels in the study area with the research results of the inland fluvial terraces by others(Chang, 1987. Jo, 1997). 3. It assumes that the Kumkok surface was formed under the lagoonal environment because it consisted of the sands with rich humus. 4. It assumes that the Chilbosan- and Kumkok surface were formed in Mindel/Riss and the Last Interglacial respectively. However, the forming period of both surfaces ought to be examined by the pollen analysis and absolute dating of the sands with rich humus in more detail.
