Philosophy is sometimes mistaken as being far from reality today, and even its effectiveness has been questioned. With this in mind, this paper studies the role of philosophy today by considering war dilemmas, which are very realistic problems.
First, by analyzing several cases from the East and the West, we find that philosophy used to be part of an effort to resolve conflicts faced by the era. Also, by analyzing war dilemmas from the perspective of philosophy, we provide an example of one of the unique roles that philosophy plays.

This paper tries to approach the problem by summarizing the main ways of thinking that can be found in all ages and countries into four. Eventually, the unique role of philosophy can be revived, not only under extreme situations like wars, but also when people put enormous efforts to resolve social conflicts such as gaps between the rich and the poor, and gender inequality.
