The purpose of this study is to examine the substitution effct of leadership substitutes for transformational leadership. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis are used to examine the effect with 253 sample from dinning-out industry. Results indicates as follows: 1) some substitutes replace or act in the place of a specific transformational leadership. For example, subordinates` professionalism replaces all 3 dimensions of transformational leadership. 2) some substitutes neutralize the effectiveness of transformational leadership. 3) some substitutes do not replace or neutralize the effectiveness of transformational leadership. As a whole results indicate mixed support for the substitutes construct.
