Physical developer(PD) is an effective technique that can develop fingerprints on wet or very old paper. Researches have been conducted to find an alternative detergent to Synperonic® N, which is used as a detergent in the PD working solution. Because it was classified as an environmentally harmful chemical. In this study, TWEEN® 20, decaethylene glycol mono-dodecyl ether(DGME), and Brij® 35 were selected among several detergents to find the optimal storage period of PD working solution according to detergent type and to compare the fingerprint development effectiveness of the solution. As a result of comparison according to storage period (0 days, 1 day, 4 days, 7 days, 10 days, 14 days), TWEEN® 20 based PD working solution showed the best fingerprint development effectiveness when 14 days storage period. On the other hand, DGME and Brij® 35 based PD working solutions showed the best fingerprint development effect when used 30 minutes after making the PD working solution. DGME based PD working solution showed a sharp weakening of fingerprint appearance effectiveness after 7 days storage period, and Brij® 35 based PD working solution of 7 days storage period cannot develop any fingerprint at all.
