성별과 연령에 따른 청소년 비행요인의 비교분석 = Analysis of Differences in Delinquency across Gender and Age

Boys consistently report higher rates of serious offending during adolescence than do girls, yet research is mixed regrading the way in which males and females may differently experience in their families, schools, peer groups, and as individuals. This articles examines gender differences in 4 factors(psychological factor, family factor, school factor, peer factor) associated with delinquency in three different age groups.
Based on self reported information from 9,293 students, this study found several specific aspects. First of all, the evidence of sex differences in delinquency were an insufficient in this study. Although there are some differences in causes of delinquency for both females and males, most findings show that common factors influenced on delinquency regardless of sex. In addition, causes of delinquency are similar in three age groups. More specifically, depression/anxiety factor show very strong and consistent impacts on juvenile delinquency regardless of different age groups. Peer factor shows a consistent influence in delinquency regardless of sex and age and this study suggest that peer factor is the most important cause of juvenile delinquency. Teacher bonding variable is slightly more important in delinquency than GPA variable among school variables, but both influences are only reported in some models. Theoretically, this study supports different association theory and the general strain theory rather than social bonding theory.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

많은 연구자들은 남자 청소년들이 여자 청소년에 비해 더 심각하고 많은 범죄를 저지른다는 것에는 대체로 동의하고 있다. 하지만 가정, 학교, 친구집단, 그리고 개인적 요인들이 남자 그리고 여자 청소년의 비행에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가에 대한 연구 결과는 아직 명확하지 않다. 이 논문은 3개(초, 중, 고등학생)의 다른 연령 집단에서 청소년 비행과 연관되는 4가지 요인(심리적요인, 가정요인, 학교요인, 친구요인)들이 청소년의 성별에 따라 어떻게 영향을 주는가에 대해 검증하였다.
9,293명의 청소년을 대상으로 한 자기 보고식 자료를 이용한 이 연구는 몇 가지 특징적인 측면을 발견하였다. 우선, 성별에 따른 비행요인의 차별성은 뚜렷하지 않았다. 성별에 따라 비행원인에 차이가 나타나기도 하였지만 공통되는 요인이 더욱 많았다. 연령에 따른 비행원인의 차이에서도 공통적인 요인들이 더 많이 발견되었다. 구체적으로는 우울․불안이 청소년 비행에 강한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 그 효과는 초․중․고에 상관없이 일관적으로 나타났다. 또한 비행친구의 영향력은 연령이나 성별에 관계없이 일관된 모습을 보여, 청소년의 비행영향요인 중 가장 중요한 요인으로 확인되었다. 학교 요인들 중에서 학업성적보다 선생유대의 효과가 다소 강하게 나타났으나 두 요인 모두 일부의 모형에서만 검증되었다. 연구의 결과를 종합하면, 이론적으로는 사회유대이론보다 차별접촉이론이나 일반긴장이론을 지지하는 결과로 해석할 수 있다.
