King Hyoseong promised not to forget Sinchung but after he accended the throne left Sinchung out when public recognition was made of meritorious retainers services. Sinchung composed a poem of grudge against the king and pasted it to the big white pine, which suddenly withered. Thereupon, after dealing with the matter, it is said that the big white pine was restored to life again. In the 3rd year of the reign of King Hyoseong Sinchung was appointed jungsi(prime minister) and in the l6th year of the reign of King Gyeongdeok Sinchung becomes sangdaedung(vice king). Thinking rationably, the time Sinchung wrote the poem of grudge should be before the 3rd year of the reign of King Hyoseong. But there is no clue that the poem of g겨dge is related to Sinchung or King Hyoseong and the contents itself are far from grudge or resentment. Therefore interpreting it as a background narrative of the tree transformation motif would be closer to reality.
The evidence that the grudge that a mistreated retainer had toward his king had been resolved is the obvious sounding ‘resolving grudge hall’. This hall was built as part of (Sinchung)Bongseong temple by King Sinmun in repentance. This is the same motif as the big white pine narrative, only that the time frame has been adjusted to the time of foundation of Bongseong temple, an important national temple. The accounts of Sinchung appear during the reigns of King Hyoseong and Gyeongdeok, the narrative of the resolving grudge hall and Sinchungs Bongseong temple was made to overlap with the already well known Bongseong temple.
In the 7th year of the reign of King Gyeongdeok Lee Soon entered Jiri mountian and erected Dansok(Retirement from the World) Temple. In the 22nd year of the reign of King Gyeongdeok, Lee Soon remonstrated with the king concerning current policy and the aforementioned retiring into the mountain account also appears at the forefront of the 22nd year of the reign of King Gyeongdeok. This is the same year that Sinchung retired from the post of sangdaedung. If Sinchung retired from the world and built Bongseong temple, this year would be the standard. This is the vital point where Sinchung and Lee Soon, Bongseong temple and Dansok temple converge. An instance of a history book where Lee Soon takes the place of Sinchung is already found in the (former) History of the Three Kingdoms, Ilyon merely transposed this as it was and called it into question.
