한국현대도예의 회화적 표현에 관한 연구 = A Study of Pictorial Representation of Korean Contemporary Ceramics

Today, the pictorial expression of modern ceramics plays a role as a major expression method to secure the uniqueness of ceramics and to express the artist's formative language. Ceramic paintings developed in the history of decorations and patterns contributed to the development of ceramics as pure art by revealing various themes due to the 1880s art movement, artists' participation in ceramic works, and the influence of modern ceramics in the 1950s. On the other hand, the pictorial expression of Korean modern ceramics has a difference that it began in the direction of inheriting traditional techniques and reinterpreting them in a modern way.
The purpose of this study is to examine the development of pictorial expressions of Korean ceramics today, starting with the beginning of modern Korean ceramics. Korean ceramics, which had a weak history of colored porcelain, have attempted to use various color glazes since the 1970s, and were first fascinated by the free expression of the Buncheong techniques. Since sculptural ceramic of contemporary American ceramics have become popular, the three-dimensional ceramics, in which three-dimensional and flat surfaces are harmonized, have emerged strongly after the 1990s. After the 2000s, with the rise of European modern art, ceramic painting that contained messages of the times in the style of traditional ceramics, an oriental medium, developed into a style. At the same time, it reflects the critical recognition of nature and life faced by the present era, and is paying attention to the essence of ceramics such as soil, glaze combination, and firing temperature. Likewise, the pictorial expression of Korean contemporary ceramics rapidly reflects the needs of modern art and the era, and is steadily changing based on the material and historical specificity of ceramics.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 현대도예의 회화적 표현은 도자가 지닌 고유성을 확보하고, 작가의 조형언어를 표출하기 위한 주요한 표현 방법으로 그 역할을 수행하고 있다. 장식과 문양의 역사 안에서 발전해온 도자회화는 1880년대 미술공예운동, 예술가들의 도자작품 참여, 1950년대 미국현대도예의 탈공예적, 표현주의적 도자의 영향으로 다양한 주제를 드러내며 도자가 순수 예술로서 발전하는 데 이바지하였다. 한편 한국현대도예의 회화적 표현은 전통기법을 계승하고 이를 현대적 재해석하는 방향에서 시작되었다는 차이점을 지닌다.
본 연구는 한국현대도예의 태동을 시작으로 오늘날 한국도예의 회화적 표현 전개양상을 고찰하는 것에 목적을 둔다. 채색자기 역사가 미약했던 한국도자는 1970년대부터 다양한 색유 도자회화에 대한 시도를 하였으며, 분청기법의 자유로운 회화성에 먼저 매료되었다. 이후 미국현대도예의 도자조형이 유행하며 입체와 평면이 조화를 이루는 입체도자회화가 1990년대부터 강하게 나타난다. 2000년 이후에는 유럽 현대미술의 부상으로 동양적 매체인 전통도자의 양식에 시대적 메시지를 담는 도자회화가 하나의 양식으로 발전하게 되었다. 동시에 현시대가 직면한 자연과 생명의 문제의식을 반영하며 흙, 유약의 배합, 소성 온도 등 도자의 본질성에 주목하고 있다. 이와 같이 한국현대도예의 회화적 표현은 현대미술과 시대의 요구를 빠르게 반영하며 도자의 재료적, 역사적 특수성을 토대로 꾸준히 변화하고 있다.
