<복선화음가(福善禍陰歌)> 속 ‘비체(鼻涕,abject)’의 형상과 욕망 = The Shape and Desire of the ‘abject’ in Bokseonhwaeumga

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 <복선화음가>에 대한 종래의 시각이 ‘주체/타자(또는 대상)’의 이분법적 구도에 경도되어 있었던 것이 아닌가 하는 문제의식으로부터 출발하였다.
<복선화음가>가 제시하는 두 인물 ‘이씨부인’과 ‘괴똥어미’는 서로 다른 성격과 형상, 삶의 궤적을 보여준다. 작품의 제목이자 주제인 ‘복선화음’은 ‘‘괴똥어미’를 닮지 말고 ‘이씨부인’을 따라야 한다’는 의미를 명징하게 표출한다. 그러나 상징 질서를 뒤흔들 수 있는, 주체도 타자도 아닌 ‘비체(鼻涕, abject)’ 개념을 작품에 대입하여 분석한 결과, 두 인물 모두에게서 특유의 비체적 성격을 발견할 수 있었다. ‘이씨부인’이 ‘물욕’이라는 비체적 욕망을 적절히 수용함으로써 시댁이라는 가부장적 질서에 상당한 영향력을 끼칠 수 있게 된 ‘살아남은 비체’라면, ‘괴똥어미’는 자신의 욕망을 모두 폭발시킨 결과로 가부장 세계에서 버림받은, ‘시체가 되어 승화된 비체’이다. 이처럼 ‘이씨부인’과 ‘괴똥어미’가 서로 다른 ‘비체’라고 할 때, ‘이씨부인’을 따르고 ‘괴똥어미’를 경계하라는 작품의 당부는 선악의 이분법적 선택지에서 ‘선’을 고르는 일이 아닌, 비체적 욕망을 다스리는 과정에서 그 ‘정도’와 ‘방법’을 조정하는 일이 된다. 이때 작품 속 인물이기도 한 ‘이씨부인’ 역시도, 그에게 ‘괴똥어미’가 그러하였듯 ‘아기딸’을 비롯한 작품의 향유자에게 ‘문학으로써 승화된 비체’가 될 수 있다.
<복선화음가>는 규방가사의 일반적 작법에서 벗어난 문제작이다. 특히 ‘복선화음’이라는 표준적인 교훈을 앞세웠음에도 불구하고, ‘이씨부인’과 ‘괴똥어미’라는 서로 다른 두 며느리 인물형을 병치함으로써 가부장적 질서를 뒤흔드는 비체적 힘을 내장하게 되었다는 점에 주목할 필요가 있다. 이러한 사실은 또 다른 며느리의 글, 또 다른 교훈적 텍스트에도 본고의 독법이 적용될 가능성을 시사한다. 더 많은 규방가사 작품들에서 <복선화음가>와 같은 비체적 힘을 찾아낼 수 있다면, 나아가 이 같은 비체성을 보다 폭넓게 상정해 볼 수 있다면, 규방가사의 여성주의적/여성문학적 가치를 새로운 입각점에서 고찰하는 하나의 계기를 마련할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper started from the awareness of the problem that the conventional view of Bokseonhwaeumga was focused on the dichotomous structure of ‘subject/other(or object)’.
The two characters ‘Mrs. Lee’ and ‘Mother Goetong’ presented in Bokseonhwaeumga show different personalities, figures, and life trajectories. The title and theme of the work, ‘Encouragement and Punishment’, clearly expresses the meaning of “You should follow ‘Mrs. Lee’ and not resemble ‘Mother Goetong’”. However, as a result of analyzing the work by applying the concept of ‘abject’, which is neither the subject nor the other, and which can shake up the ‘discipline of the Symbolic’, into the work, unique ‘abject’ characteristics were discovered in both characters. If ‘Mrs. Lee’ is a ‘surviving abject’ who has been able to have a significant influence on the patriarchal order of her in-laws by appropriately accepting her desire for ‘material greed’, ‘Mother Goetong’ is an ‘abject sublimated into a corpse’ abandoned by the patriarchal world as a result of exploding all of her desires. Since ‘Mrs. Lee’ and ‘Mother Goetong’ are different ‘abject’s, the work’s request of ‘You should follow ‘Mrs. Lee’ and not resemble ‘Mr. Goetong’” is not to choose ‘good’ from the dichotomous choice of good and evil, but to adjust the ‘degree’ and ‘method’ in the process of governing the ‘abject’ desire. In addition, ‘Mrs. Lee’, who is also a character in the work, can also become ‘an abject sublimated through literature’ to the enjoyers of the work, including ‘Baby Daughter’, just as the ‘Mother Goetong’ was to her.
Bokseonhwaeumga is a problematic work that deviates from the general writing style of Gyubang Gasa. In particular, it is important to note that, despite the standard lesson of ‘Encouragement and Punishment’, the power of the ‘abject’ that shakes the patriarchal order was built in by juxtaposing two different daughter-in-law figures. This point suggests the possibility that this paper’s perspective can be applied to another daughter-in-law’s writing and another didactic text. If the power of ‘abject’ can be found in more works of Gyubang Gasa, and furthermore, if the characteristics of the ‘abject’ can be assumed as the characteristics of the genre, it will provide an opportunity to examine the feminist/feminine literature’s value of Gyubang Gasa from a new perspective.
