Generally speaking, the evangelical mission theology stresses biblical text which focuses on evangelism, the great commission given by Jesus Christ, and personal conversion through the Gospel. This means that they are loyal to biblical text in mission. The ecumenists, on the contrary, has been more interests on situations in mission and mission fields, which include caring for the poors, pursuing justice and social participation, and elimination of structural sins in society. It means that their theology of mission focuses more on situations. Historically speaking, however, ecumenical missiology had been distorted into situation-oriented missiology up to Uppsala WCC Congress(1968) and Bangkok CWME Conference(1973). Ecumenical theology of mission has been stressed “missio Dei,” on which stresses social participation, social responsibility of the church, and elimination of structural sins of society. Uppsala WCC Congress(1968) and Bangkok CWME Conference(1973) had its peaks in mission, which stressed mission goal as humanization instead of evangelization for eternal salvation through the faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in traditional redemptive theology. In addition to that, the concept of salvation changed from eternal salvation to today``s salvation in Bangkok CWME Conference which stresses the salvation of the poors from the poverty, that of the oppressed from tyrants of the countries, and which excludes or weakens traditional eschatological and redemptive salvation,In those situation, evangelical theologians tried to recover the biblical theology of mission against contextual missiology of ecumenical group with conferences such as Wheaton Congress on the Church’s Worldwide Mission(1966), Berlin World Congress on Evangelism(1966), Chicago Declaration of Evangelical Social Concern(1973). In the process of those congresses and conferences, evangelical theologians tried to stress the critical importance of evangelism and the Gospel through the Bible, and also increasingly realized the importance of social responsibility in mission. Dramatically, at last, in the Lausanne Consultation on World Evangelization(LCWE), evangelical theologians and missiologians made biblical balance between text(the Bible) and context(situations). After LCWE, ecumenical meetings such as Nairobi WCC conference(1975) and San Antonio CWME Conference(1989) also had balances between text and context.
